TYRONE – Westmont Hilltop built an insurmountable lead over the Huntingdon Bearcats and cruised to a 36-33 win to take home the District 6 Class AA Dual Meet Championship on Saturday in Tyrone.

Westmont won eight of nine matches out of the gate, including four by fall to build a 33-6 lead. After Clayton Dorian’s 3-2 decision at 152 pounds made the score 36-3, Mason Muto’s 4-3 loss at 160 pounds made it impossible for Huntingdon to catch the Hilltoppers.

“All day, the boys wrestled tough,” Westmont coach Matt Beaujon said. “We knew they were going to score some points on us, so we couldn’t just look for seven wins. per se. We knew we needed the bonus points, and the boys delivered.”

The District 6 Class AA duals title is Westmont’s first since 2009.

Westmont sophomore Max Yonko got the ball rolling again for the Hilltoppers by bumping up to 285 pounds and delivering a fall in 1:59 over Bearcats sophomore Isaiah Reed to give Westmont a 6-0 lead.

Tanner Kushner followed with a dominating 7-0 decision over senior Cody Bilger at 106 pounds. Kushner started the match with a single-leg takedown and turned Bilger for two nearfall points. Kushner tacked on a second period takedown and a third-period escape.

At 113 pounds, Westmont’s Zane Blackburn used a second-period takedown to break a 2-2 tie. Blackburn added a third-period reversal for a 6-4 decision over Roland Mills.

Derrick Christie followed with a quick fall over Caden Reamer at 120 pounds to extend Westmont’s lead to 18-0.

At 126 pounds, Hilltoppers sophomore Connor Polacek started the second period with a reversal before using an arm bar to turn Brynen Kisiel for the fall at 3:27 to give Westmont a 24-0 advantage.

Huntingdon’s Isaac Benson answered with a pin of Jordan Malzi at 132 pounds to put the Bearcats on the board at 24-6.

Westmont’s Noah Korenoski quickly quashed Huntingdon’s momentum with a 7-3 decision over Jacob Wagner at 138 pounds. Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Korenoski opened the second with a reversal and added three nearfall points before surrendering an escape. Wagner selected neutral to start the third and Lorenoski recorded the lone takedown of the period to stretch Westmont’s lead to 27-6.

At 145 pounds, Hudson Holbay wasted little time, taking Myles Baney down and to his back for a 30-second fall to make the team score 33-6.

Clayton Dorian rallied from a 2-1 deficit with a standing switch with 50 seconds remaining to edge Joseph Bailey 3-2 at 152 pounds to put Westmont in front 36-6.

With Huntingdon needing to win the final five matches by fall for a tie, Westmont’s Mason Muto sealed the victory despite getting hit with three stalling calls in the third period to drop a 4-3 decision to Andrew Finkle at 160 pounds.

Following Braeden Knodes fall over Westmont’s Camden Moors at 170 pounds, Beaujon opted to forfeit the final three matches to set the 36-33 final.

In the consolation final, Forest Hills downed Bishop McCort 51-15 for third place.
